What will I learn in these two blocks?

Key learning outcomes are:

  • Practice the application of the cognitive motor control testing (CMCT) within the kinetic control reasoning framework (site & direction of uncontrolled movement).

  • Deal with the different muscle classifications through targeted muscle testing, activation retraining for global stabilizer muscle and/ or increase extensibility if global mobilizer muscles.

  • Display options integrated interventions with movement retraining (e.g., lumbo-pelvic stabilization, deep neck flexor activation, scapular stabilization, rotator cuff activation) & a variety of handson practical interventions to alter the pain mechanisms associated to their patients ‘related dysfunctions.

  • Evaluates movement patterns to help change muscle function associated to pain, pathology, and compromised function.

  • Relate muscle synergy recruitment patterns to pain, recurrence and compromised function & gain the ability to assess and retrain muscle synergy efficiency.

  • Identify how assessment, analysis and retraining of alignment and posture and their relationship with movement to reduce pain, the impact of pathology and improve function.

  • Develops clinicians’ teaching and cueing skillset of their patients’ movement patterns to influence muscle function associated with pain, pathology and compromised function.

  • Demonstrate the ability to assess and retrain impairments in the local stabilizer role system related to a patient’s risk of recurrence & translation dysfunctions (e.g., recurrent dislocations, spondylolisthesis, clicking & clucking)

  • Demonstrate an ability to employ a clinical reasoning framework to identify why some patients require this approach and when.

  • Demonstrate enhances skills of cueing and recruitment facilitation for better management of chronic symptoms and recurrences).

Teaching Team

Mahmoud Saad

Mahmoud qualified from Cairo University in 1999 and worked clinically and academically before moving to the UK in 2004 to start his academic role at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) as a senior physiotherapy lecturer. He has a post-graduate certificate in teaching and learning in Higher education -UK, master in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy from SHU, Diploma in manual therapy (leading to MACP recognition) and currently persuading a Ph.D. degree in MSK Physiotherapy at SHU-UK. Mahmoud is a physiotherapy academic and clinician based in Sheffield UK.

Fatma El-Bakry

After more than 10 years of experience working with a wide variety of patients in private practice as a therapist and Pilates instructor, Fatma discovered Kinetic Control. She found that its rigorous clinical framework helped her to use movement assessment and retraining in her treatment, alongside the integration of Pilates, as a long term effective and high standard management, rehabilitation and patient care strategy.Fatma believes her strongest assets to be her curiosity, evident as a passion for reading and learning, her eagerness to continuously develop her skills, share her knowledge and to be part of the great challenge and change happening every day in health care management.

JACQUELINE SWART

Jacqueline's Manage Movement Centre in South Africa allows her to employ her expertise in treating patients with various musculoskeletal disorders in addition to sports injuries, preventing injuries/recurrence of injuries and improving overall Movement Health. She firmly believes that managing movement should be the basis of each physiotherapist's practice. Also qualified as a Pilates instructor she gets the most out of her studio equipment as part of her specific movement retraining with her wide client base. Her expertise is has allowed Jacqueline to attend several World Athletic championships as a South African team physiotherapist.

First coming across the concept of movement control in 2004, Jacqueline has never looked back. Since 2008 she has been qualified as a Kinetic Control Movement Therapist, Accredited Tutor and TPM Consultant (The Performance Matrix) and is passionate about sharing the Movement Health message all over the world, making the world move better, to feel better.
