The dizziness and balance rehabilitation clinic is dedicated to providing comprehensive assessment and implementing effective treatment strategies in individuals with dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders. Continuing education is provided to healthcare professionals on a regular basis through our courses and seminars.

Bernard is a Physiotherapist (University of Toronto) who has been assessing and treating orthopaedic and neurological clients for over 30 years. He has worked in both the public and private sectors and since 1993, exclusively in the private sector, both in British Columbia and Ontario. In 1997, he became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists. He has completed numerous courses in orthopaedics as well as vestibular rehabilitation and in 2001, completed a competency based, certification course in vestibular rehabilitation. He has been assessing and treating clients with vestibular dysfunctions since 1995. He is the founder of the Dizziness and Balance Rehab Clinic.

Day 1: Basic Vestibular Rehab

Comprehensive evidence based introductory course

Course Content:

- General Anatomy of the Vestibular System.

- Pathophysiology of Vestibular Disorders.

  • Etiology.

  • Signs and symptoms of unilateral vestibular lesions (UVL), bilateral vestibular lesions (BVL), and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

- Differential Diagnosis of the Dizzy Patient:

  • Cervicogenic dizziness.

  • Whiplash and the dizzy patient.

  • VR and concussion.

- Critical Elements of the Clinical Examination:

  • Oculomotor exam.

  • Motion sensitivity testing.

  • Balance and gait assessment.

- BPPV Assessment and Treatment.

- Treatment of UVL and BVL

- Case Studies and Practical Time, Lots of Videos

Day 2: Advanced Vestibular Rehab

Course Content:

A review of the assessment and treatment of BPPV, UVL and BVL clients. Lecture and practical sessions

  • ​Pathophysiology of selected otologic and non otologic causes of dizziness not reviewed in detail during the introductory course. Examples: central dizziness, (migraine associated vertigo), and SCD. In particular, the role of vestibular rehab in concussion management will be presented.

  • Advances in the assessment and treatment of these pathologies as well as cervicogenic dizziness.

  • Videos of nystagmus and oculomotor findings.

  • A variety of case studies will be presented

  • Review quiz
