Aims

 

Patients with vestibular disorders are commonly seen in practice. In this course, we will discuss the assessment and the management of the vestibular dysfunction patients who complain of pathologies linked to the vestibular system such as balance problems, visual problems, dizziness and vertigo.

 

Objectives:

  1. Understanding the functional anatomy of the vestibular system and linking it to the problems seen in practice.

  2. Discussing the role of the vestibular system in the balance and the spatial orientation.

  3. Integrating an evidence-based framework to the assessment of the vestibular system.

  4. Clinical evaluation tools to formulate a differential diagnosis of the commonly seen vestibular disorders.

  5. Understanding Dizziness and Vertigo.

  6. Introducing different techniques to manage the vestibular dysfunctions (example: positional maneuvers for the Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo BPPV).

  7. Differentiating between central and peripheral vestibular dysfunction.

  8. Management of the Unilateral and the Bilateral Vestibular dysfunctions.

  9. Differentiating between different management approaches as habituation and adaptation exercises.

  10. Enhancing strategies for Home-Based exercises for the dizzy patients.
